Head Teachers’ message

As the school year draws to a close, it seems a pertinent time to reflect on the year. We still await the Ofsted Report and will hopefully get that out before the end of the term. Our DfE results for EYFS, Year 1, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6 were all strong and indicate that Weldon is well on track for the future. We still have a few Covid gaps to close, but are confident we can do that.

We’ve also enjoyed Young Voices, many sports tournaments and Sports Day, school trips, a residential, a disco and June Rose Day, all of which have been long-awaited for. So, here’s to next year. We look forward to the return of your children and to driving through further improvement.

Thank you for your support, as always. Have a great Summer.

Kirstin Howarth & Lesley Middleton

School News

Children got the chance to spend the morning with their new teacher in their new classroom on Monday and on Tuesday 19th July we will hold a ‘Meet the Teacher’ Evening. This is your opportunity to come and look at your child’s work books, have a chat with their current teacher and pop into their new classroom and say hello to their new teacher. If you feel you need time to talk with either teacher in confidence then please make an appointment for another mutually convenient time.

The weather is certainly getting hotter so to help the children keep cool they are welcome to wear their PE t-shirt and PE shorts to school. Sunhats and water bottles are essentials and please keep applying sun cream before school, thank you.

Library books – please may we ask that all library books are returned to school by 9am on Monday. We intend to send home completed workbooks by the end of next week so a carrier bag for your child would be appreciated, thank you.

Thank you to our PFTA for organising the Summer Fair that followed our school June Rose Day Celebrations, the children loved it and we look forward to them announcing how much was raised.

The PFTA also gave out free ice lollies and sweets to children after Sports Day, this was a real treat too, thank you.

Pre-Loved Uniform Sale

Thank you to everyone who has donated outgrown school uniform over the past year, we have enough to hold a sale.

This will be held in our school hall on Tuesday 19th July from 3.30pm. This is the same evening as ‘Meet the Teacher’ so do pop in. Suggested donations for items are £1 if it has a school logo, 50p if it hasn’t. Please bring cash, thank you.

Sporting News

We are delighted to announce we have been awarded with the SCHOOL GAMES GOLD AWARD today!

This award is given to schools to recognise their sporting engagement, pupil access to clubs and tournaments, access to a variety of sports equipment and the promotion of sporting values. This is the first time Weldon has achieved a Gold and we are super proud!

Thank you for everyone who came along to our Sports Day, the children loved having you all cheer them on.

We have 15 children from Years 2-4 taking part in the annual PDET Going for Gold Sports Event on Friday, we trust they will all be winners, good luck and enjoy!

Our after school sports clubs have been really popular this school year, our school fully funded the LM Academy places and we hope every child who wanted to give it go, got the chance to try one out. All our sports clubs end this week and we will re-start new clubs in September, we will email when the details are finalised.
